Ford 7.3L and 6.0L POWER STROKE Diesel Owners - Extend the Life of Your Engine Using AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants

AMSOIL offers many products for diesel engines including a full range of diesel oils, drivetrain lubricants and filtration options.

Use Amsoil in your Ford Power Stroke Diesel and travel 25,000 miles or 1 year between oil changes, longer if using oil analysis, see below!

AMSOIL is the only diesel oil designed for extended oil drain intervals which can resist the added shear caused by new diesel emissions systems which increase soot, heat and average engine RPM.

Ford Power Stroke Diesel Information

You've spent your hard earned money on the Ford Power strokeit is one of the most popular and best engineered trucks there is, now don't you think you owe it to yourself to use the very best oil in it? Don't let your local dealership service center tell you that you have to use their brand of oil to "maintain your warranty". That is a 100% false statement by the dealership, yet it goes on day in and day out. We constantly receive calls from customers that were told this by their servicing dealership. This practice is not authorized or condoned by the auto manufacturers, but the fact is it still goes on.

How a servicing dealership can essentially tell a customer that they have to use a lower quality oil to "maintain their warranty" is not only wrong but it is also illegal unless they provide it free of charge. There are Federal laws that protect you against this.

In a recent Lubricants World Magazine interview the president of a major national quick lube chain (which is owned by a major petroleum oil company) states that if they can get customers to shorten their drain intervals by 100 miles it would mean an additional $20 million in revenue for the company per year and if they can get consumers to do one more oil change per year it would mean $294 million for the oil change alone and $441 million in revenue when they include ancillary products and services that go along with the oil change. In fact, the president of the quick lube chain openly admits that the bottom line is profits. The shorter the drain interval the more money the quick lube makes. It is our opinion that they would be more profitable by promoting and installing AMSOIL extended drain interval synthetic motor oil. It appears that the short drain interval petroleum oils they promote are good at assuring that customers will be back for another oil change in a relatively short period of time.

Product Recommendations for Diesel Vehicles
There are new rules in affect beginning in the 2007 model year for all diesel applications.
Stricter EPA guidelines are now calling for a new specification on all diesel oils. The spec is classified as CJ-4 and it must be used in 2007 diesel engines or you will cause harm to your engine.

Amsoil recommendations are as follows:
For all 2007 and newer diesel vehicles the following oil must be used: DEO 5W-40 - This is Amsoil newest Synthetic Oil and meets the newest CJ-4 oil specifications. The use of any other oil in 2007 diesel equipment not meeting CJ-4 will cause harm to your engine and in particular the DPM filter. DPM stands for Diesel Particulate Matter and is a highly sophisticated filter designed to clean the exhaust gases before it enters the atmosphere. This filter can become severely clogged if the wrong oil is used in your engine.

Below are the correct oil filters to order per Diesel Engines:

  • Chevy Duramax – EaO-52
  • Dodge Cummins – EaO-80 or Donaldson ELF-7349
  • Ford Power Stroke 7.3L – EaO-99
  • Ford Power Stroke 6.0L – EaO-88

If you own a 2006 or older diesel Use approved API CI-4 + diesel oil. For 2006 model year and older you may use either one of the following full Synthetic Oil’s.

HDD 5W-30-
This is the oil that I use in my 2005 GMC Duramax. I presently have a BMK16Ea By-Pass Oil Filter mounted on my truck which allows me to extend my drain intervals beyond 25,000-miles.

AME 15W-40
- This is AMSOIL’s top selling oil overall. You can use any gasoline or diesel engine (previous to 2007 models.) AME is an excellent all purpose synthetic fleet lubricant that will typically meet most of your fleets demands.

ACD 10W-30/SAE 30
- This synthetic oil can be used where a 10W-30 or straight 30 weight oil is desired. This is very good economical choice and like Amsoil’s 15W-40 synthetic oil is an excellent fleet oil.

The 6.0L & 6.4L Power Stroke uses a canister element oil filter on top of the engine. The AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Synthetic Oil Filter for the 6.0 PSD is Part #EAO-88 and has a change interval specification of 25,000-miles/1-year. No other company has an oil filter that has these specifications except AMSOIL. When using the AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel oil or the Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel oil, the oil filter element must be changed at 25,000-miles/1-year. The specification on the oil is 25,000-miles/1-year, or longer with oil analysis testing. The AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil Part #AME-05 .The Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil Part #HDD-05 (5 gallons). Other sizes are available.

Please note that 2008 (and newer) engines with the 6.4L engine which utilizes an EGR system and Diesel Particulate Filter on the exhaust system must use the AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 PremiumAPI CJ-4 Diesel Oil. The change interval is recommended for the longest service interval established by the engine, vehicle or equipment manufacturer. Drain intervals may be extended based on oil analysis.

If you are interested in by-pass oil filtration we offer an AMSOIL by-pass system specifically for the 6.0 Power Stroke. The AMSOIL by-pass system is a superior filtration system that utilizes advanced filtration technology to provide your engine with a continuous, contaminate free flow of lube oil.

AMSOIL also offers an FFK60 fuel filter element for the 6.0 Power Stroke .

AMSOIL offers the Donaldson Severe Duty Powercore Air Filter Part #P603577 for the 6.0 Power Stroke. The AMSOIL/Donaldson Powercore Airbox has over 80 patents and utilizes technology that no other company has and achieves a 99.98%+ efficiency rating. This is the same filtration technology used on the M1-Abrams military combat tanks.

The 5-speed Torqshift automatic transmission uses the AMSOIL Universal ATF which is recommended for the Ford SP specification. The change interval specification is 100,000 miles under normal service or 50,000 miles for severe service.

The front and rear differentials use the AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-140 Gear Lube. No friction modifier is required. AMSOIL does offer a friction modifier called Slip Lock in the rare event that a limited slip differential develops chatter on turns.

75W-90 gear lube is recommended by many other manufacturers because it is more fuel efficient that a 75W-140. Ford uses a 75W-140 synthetic gear lube in the rear axles of all production trucks. Chevy prefers 75W-90 mainly due to fuel economy concerns for CAFE. I personally recommend the AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-140 because during extensive severe durability testing performed by Ford and Dana, the 75W-140 outperformed the 75W-90. That does not mean the 75W-90 is not good to use, just that the 75W-140 is better under certain severe conditions. Most front differentials recommend 75W-90 or 80W-90 because the front axle is typically not used very much so they can get by with lower cost oil. You do not need AMSOIL Slip Lock friction modifier unless you hear chatter on turns, which only happens in a very small percentage of applications. In some rare cases, if you do hear chatter on turns, then you will need to install a bottle of AMSOIL's Slip-Lock Differential Additive (Product Code: ADA). Its convenient flip-top dispenser provides quick and easy application to the gear housing. One four ounce bottle of Slip-Lock treats differential capacities of two to four quarts.

AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate Performance Fuel Additive

AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate (ADF) provides maximum diesel operating efficiency. It compensates for the variances in quality of different fuels (including biodiesel) and the deficiencies of today’s Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel (ULSD) for better engine operation. New engine technology, tighter tolerances and emissions regulations require high quality diesel fuel for long-term engine operation. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate improves diesel fuel quality to exceed today’s stringent performance requirements. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate extends equipment life, lowers operating costs and improves diesel performance.

AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate provides the following benefits:

·        Improves Fuel Economy and Restores Horsepower

·        Lubricates Fuel Pump and Injectors: ULSD has significantly reduced lubricity – a critical property in controlling wear in fuel pumps and injectors. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate adds back in all the lubricity properties needed and more.

·        Reduces Cylinder wear. Retains Engine Oil TBN Longer

·        Minimizes Soot Loading

·        Stabilizes Fuel

·        Improves Water Tolerance

Use one ounce of AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate to five gallons of fuel.

High fuel prices are increasing operating costs for everyone. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate has proven in industry standard tests to improve fuel economy in used diesel engines by up to five percent. At $3.00 per gallon for diesel fuel, even a modest three percent improvement in fuel economy equals a savings of $0.09 per gallon. With a treat rate of one oz. of AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate to five gallons of fuel, at U.S. Preferred Customer/Dealer prices the net treat cost of AMSOIL ADF is $0.06 per gallon, bringing the total savings to $0.03 per gallon and negating the cost of AMSOIL Diesel  Concentrate altogether.

AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow Improver

Combining AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate with a cold flow improvement property is not cost effective in the summer months, or to AMSOIL customers who live in the south. To keep costs down for Dealers and customers, AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate no longer includes a cold flow improver. Instead, AMSOIL provides new AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow Improver (DFF) for low-temperature applications below 40°F. Recommended mix ratio is one ounce of additive per five gallons of fuel.

AMSOIL Cetane Boost will raise cetane levels up to 7 points for improved performance and fuel economy.

This should get you started. Do not become overwhelmed by all there is to do. Just do a little bit at a time and eventually you will have everything converted over. Once you do, you will have a better performing and protected truck. Please contact me if you have any questions. I am here to assist you in using the very best AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants and Filtration Systems for your vehicle.
